Throat infection

Tonsillitis is an infection of the tonsils and pharynx, which are located in the back of the throat. It is most commonly caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Symptoms include sore throat, fever, headache, difficulty swallowing, and swollen lymph nodes in the neck. Treatment for tonsillitis includes rest, over-the-counter medication to reduce pain and inflammation, and antibiotics (if caused by a bacterial infection). In severe cases of recurrent tonsillitis surgery may be required to remove the tonsils.   .Long-term complications of tonsillitis include hoarseness, recurrent otitis media, recurrent throat infections which may lead to ear disease and hearing loss, and chronic pharyngitis. .Another long-term complication of tonsillitis is bacterial vaginosis, which is a condition in which a woman has an overgrowth of "Gardnerella vaginalis" bacteria. The bacteria alter the pH balance and cause changes in the vagina's natural flora, resulting in an unpleasant smell. This can be treated with antibiotics or by changing sexual partners.Although there are many complications associated with tonsillitis, it is often asymptomatic. and difficult to diagnose.  Tonsillitis is the inflammation of the tonsils. Tonsils are small, oval-shaped glands in the pharynx (throat) that are involved with swallowing, breathing, and taste sensation. An infected tonsil can cause difficulty swallowing and breathing due to swelling around it or an ulcer on its surface. The infection may spread to more lymph nodes i .e. the cervical lymph nodes (in the neck) because they are close to the tonsils and the neck or throat and causes a fever.
